As we started to prepare for our trip overseas while traveling by myself I wanted to ensure I had everything I needed at hand to make sure the experience was spent embracing every moment together, as this was our first-ever trip overseas for our daughter.
The day before we didn't do anything too busy.
We relaxed mostly around the house to ensure she was well-rested for our long journey ahead. We packed a few toys and books, lots of healthy snacks, and pre-bottled milk.
Once we arrived at the airport, I made sure to have our baby carrier for ease. It was beneficial to bring as it ensured my toddler was right with me at all times. Meanwhile, It also freed my hands to manage to check in, deal with the luggage, and of course the stroller. We booked our ticket with extra legroom on the flight so that she had a little play area in front of me this was a huge benefit as it gave us a bit more freedom in terms of room. We also brought our stroller for gate check which allowed us to have it to go through security and while we had our layover in Amsterdam. This was a lifesaver! She could nap and eat in the stroller making it more user-friendly when needing to feed lunch or breakfast.
I made sure to bring baby Tylenol due to the pressure change as it can sometimes cause pain in their ears, during take-off and landing I would offer lots of water as it's important for them to stay hydrated it also benefited to reduce the pressure build-up in the ears.
During the flight we tried to stick to our normal daily routine, if it was nap time then we did that, if it was time to stay awake then I would try to keep her up for her normal wake window! Super important not to change the routine just because you are in an unfamiliar environment.
